The Chinese characters at the bottom rim under the central figure are guan gong (e.). (On the medal, the Chinese is read right to left.)

Guan Gong translates as "Lord Guan". He was a famous general in ancient China. He is also known as Guan Yu (e羽).

You can read about Guan Gong (Guan Yu) here and here.

On the reverse side is a dragon on the right with a flaming pearl at the top.

At the top left is a swastika.

Below the swastika are the Chinese characters fu (福) shou (壽) xi (-) written in ancient seal script.

Fu shou xi translates as "good fortune, longevity and happiness".

Thanks Gary, your info is very helpful & interesting, but I would also like to know the reason for this token's existence, for what purpose was it made, perhaps a Chinese holiday? Was it created for the Chinese market or for the Chinese population here? So far my internet search has not yielded anything.
Best regards & thanks again
Kurt
