I pondered this question in another thread, but thought it may be best to discuss it here.

I was wondering why there were no non-p nickels from 2002 to 2004 and I got a few thoughts on that.

I looked at the mintage numbers, and about 25% of the nickels were no-p in 2006.
The number was 43,008,000 which is almost 50% more than the "rare" 2001 no p at 30,035,000.

There are debates about keeping cupro-nickel coins since their melt values are getting close to the face value, and with ARP they will soon be gone.

I wonder if the fact that the 2006 no p no logo nickel is the last cupro-nickel coin made will mean anything. It is also the last non magnetic coin larger then 1¢ made in Canada,

I don't find lots of them, in fact I actually seem to find more of the 2001s

I will likely keep a roll or two of the good ones around, but I wondered if anyone else thinks it might amount to anything.

I was wondering that myself. Of the 25 rolls I just went through, I found 45 2006 nickels. Of those, 26 were P, 16 logo and only 3 the cupro-nickel.

yes the cupro 2006 guys are hard to find not near hard to find then a 2000 p but, still hard to find. I have been keeping them for the composition not the two great facts in which you brought up!

Excellent, I would keep all of them, unless gunk or any extreme damage!

Good thread!

Never really thought about it, but now that I am.

Will have to pay closer attention during future roll searches.

No harm in keeping some around, eventually there will be enough roll searchers interested in the subject and more information about availability will come to light.
