I was just looking at my 1908-1998 90th RCM anniversary set. I received this antique finish version roughly a month ago. It's sterling silver and it seems the projected Mintage figures were lower on this version than the normal proof set. I bought it to go with my proof set. I got it for something like$50, a good deal I feel. At first I didn't real like the antique finish but it has started to grow on me. I would like others to chime in with their opinions and pics. I tried uploading the others after optimizing them each twice, as I did for these images already added. I get a strange message of No Service, so I have no idea. I find the changes in tone quite destinctive. I also noticed the color has slight variations on the 4 coins other than the large cent. I feel they went a little too dark on the large cent. Please discuss your thoughts on these sets. It comes in a very pleasing case. Maybe others will post photos, as I'm stuck now.

I have been having service issues this weekend PC50. Not just you. Very spotty tonight.
I like that set of yours.

The most interesting coin in this set is the penny, which I believe due to some mistake of the Mint, has left out the word "Canada". They added it back to the proof version.

Amazing, a 1908 - 1998 penny with no Country.

90th anniversary of the RCM sets, I have both the antique and mirror finishes and think they are pretty special. Gatewest sell a combo of both sets for $100 which is half of the issue price. Mintages: Antique 24,893 Mirror 18,376 Agreed that the lack of "Canada" on the antique penny is cool. The case is nice too.

That's a neat looking set, Pocket Change! I looked it up in my new Charlton 5th edition catalogue where I can see the reverse designs. Very cool! I see that your one cent must have no "Canada". Oh Canada, eh

Yeah it's funny, I was trying to add an extended edit on my free gift set post. I'd realized it was my 1,000 post so wanted to add a bit about the milestone. I hit post and 5 min later nothing was happening. So I asked my son, if he was having issues, answer no. Then I cleared history and cookies, still no help. Finally 20 mins later I could add a shorter modified comment to the post. The pics I'd optimized them 3X and still I was getting the no service comment. I may try later, as I did the photos with the cover off, since 47Pt7 thinks it's lazy not to. I've got another reason besides time to not want to take photos of raw coins. My pets are usually near me, and it's easy for pet hair to get into the capsules. It's a pita to try and remove because of static cling. It's one of my pet peeves about coins and pets!! Trying to keep hair from sneaking into photos or clinging to capsules. My darn Persian cat loves sleeping in my pile of RCM packing boxes. It's an uncomfortable area, I've got a couple rows stacked against the wall. It's my cats favorite place to sleep. He's got much softer places through the house. The boxes and bathroom sink are kittkat's favorite spots. Oh another is on my cell phone, when I put it down near me. I don't know how many times: I've lost the ph - the cat was sitting on it.

One of my favourite sets issued by the RCM...

Hey guys I just checked and Canada is missing. Wow I never noticed, I just bought it to go with the proof set in regular finish. The designs are exceptional and to have them in mint state is awesome. A couple yrs ago I used to see the sets all over ebay. This pass year they don't come up to often. Thanks CC Ottawa I didn't know the completed mintages for either set. I'm amazed the antique finish is higher. I thought it would be lower, as I heard it wasn't as popular as the mirror version.

The Penny without the "Canada" is cool. Great set. I still preferred the traditional proof, when bought mine, cause I like the concept of "old design in new strike", and antique finish tries to be an "old". Same like people said - one of my favorites RCM items (and my oldest RCM NCLT set).

I really like the look of the proof set but I don't have either atm lol, if I were to get one I would have to get the other as well just because. Maybe a Christmas gift for my self , I was looking at gatewest combo deal , not bad, but I am getting to the point that I have to start unloading some stuff and figuring out what I want to keep long term such as sets , certain singles etc etc. I don't think I can part with the sets that I have but some of the singles have to go..just too many.

This one never "grabbed" me. I always thought the coins in the set looked "dirty" rather than having the attractive antique finish I am familiar with on high-relief medals. But, I've never seen the set "live." Maybe if I did I would change my mind.
I'm glad to see that you are enjoying it!

Hi moosey, do you know how many of these large cents have the missing Canada ? I remember reading something back in early 2013, I never really paid attention. I was thinking I'd never run across it or I'd not be able to afford one. Back then a $100 was lots to spend on a single coin. I never forseen spending more than $70 on 1 coin. I mostly spent way less, average per coin seldom exceeded $35 per silver coin. Nowadays it's a lot different.
I guess I never noticed because the other coins have Canada, so I wasn't expecting it. The brain is great for filling in the gaps. I'm also not an error or variety collector - so never look for abnormalities. I could have rare error coins and not be aware. The only difference is some that are commonly known then I'd check for them. It's not something I spend time doing.

I cannot find any info concerning the missing Canada on the large cent. How many were minted? Does the regular proof set have the same error? Is the antique set also considered a proof finish, or what is the finish called other than the color?
