No matter how many pictures you post of this coin the date position does not change and it is wrong for an 1888/7.

I stated towards the beginning of the thread that the pictures previously posted did not show the full extension of the neck. I knew b/c of the debris and my opinion on what was going on with the coin, I wouldn't get far before a thumbs down. That doesn't mean you're wrong or I'm right. It was just a factor that I believed to be non relevant at the time. Since the date position has been brought up again, I might as well explain my opinion of what I think is throwing people off. This included myself initially. The date as a whole appeared thick. I of course thought it was gunk and debris. Now when some if it cleared I came up with the theory that the date was a DDO if not Machine Doubling. This caused most if not all of the digits to double left strong. The portraits front bust also followed but a bit softer which made it harder to notice. There is hard doubling on the head feathers I believe and I'm sure elsewhere on the obverse. I can't tell yet if the reverse shows doubling or not. I still think there is a 7 involved and a raised area along the denticals by ED of United I believe is finally starting to show through the corrosion and dirt. I am not an expert but just possible observation. On one of the pics I tried to show doubling of hair around bust and maybe another hint at a hopeful 7. On another I wanted to show doubling of 1 and front bust .
