What do you guys think? I was having a hard time trying to figure out which number to give it. I was going with one of the S-3's but that's as far as I could go.
I was also wondering what you guys thought about on the grade. I think that is something I'm going to start spending some time on studying.
I also like the die chip on the reverse. I call it the extra acorn.

In my Snow book, the date/position most closely matches S-3b.
Imo, grading AU/MS from a pic is a tough call...not sure if I see wear or not on the brow/hair. Nice coin!
From what I see, I'm leaning towards AU-58--but I could easily be downgrading this one.

Lol I wasn't trying to trick you. I just wanted to see what you thought the Grade would be. I see way to many places where the holder says one thing yet everyone agrees otherwise.

What I find interesting is what Snow refers to as the bulging T (right pennant) on the reverse. Is that what you are referring to as 'the extra acorn'. Snow mentions that this is found only on proofs from 1872 (PR 1) through 1878, but it certainly appears to be on this coin.

I agree with 63BN. Is it your coin?

Wow--good observation! It sure looks similar to the reverse on the 1872 proof (below)
I'll keep my eyes open for another example.

A lack of details below the CEN of CENT, but I'm guessing that part was weakly struck. MS63.

Yes the coin is mine. I liked the looks of it.
The die chip "extra acorn" is on the wreath at around 10:30.. It sticks up and away from the wreath.
I've never noticed that on the bulging T. That's interesting as well.

Well I have looked around and have not see any other 1880's with the "buldging T" on them. I sent it to Rick so he could have a look at it.

After learning a little about that when you guys pointed it out. I'm wondering if they didn't just use an old reverse in a pinch or something.
