is there an easy way to tell if the nickel is missing the chrome. I am looking through a roll of 1953 nickels and some have a blue tinge to them ,some look like chrome and a couple look kind of flat. any comments.

The blue tinge ones are chromed.

yes look up other forum posts on all of the different years, such as 1944, 45, 50, 51 *, and 52. Your year is not too common but more common than 51 and 52.
