Picked this up today.

China
1927 1 Yuan
Sun Yat-sen Founding of the Republic - Commemorative
"Memento Dollar"

Fortunately its a one year type so trying to figure out what year it was minted was not difficult.

The perverse appreciation of lowballs seems to be an American quirk. I posted this on the U.K. forum a while back and it didn't elicit much in the way of approbation.

You seem to be on to something here.

While I have some very low grade coins (including Victorian Pennies), they are just space filler in a year series or some coins which would be very expensive in higher grade.

Don't forget that one can always lower the grade of a coin with the right methods.

I appreciate any coin, no matter how badly it is worn, as long as I tell what the date is.

I'm a confirmed darksider with a fondness for the 'older' stuff, so there are numerous specimens I keep that others might consider 'less than collectible'.
And that doesn't bother me one bit.
