Poll Question
Good day. I usually mark my rolls when I send them back to the bank in the case that another hunter circulates them back in.
I have gotten other peoples rolls that here marked and still found good stuff in them.
Other times I have got a box that was marked and it was cleaned out.
So the question is: Do you search rolls if they have been marked?

If I see they were mine then I don't. Hopefully I did a thorough job the first time. I suppose if I silver hunted then I might be inclined not to assuming the silver has been picked. As a collector I might assume silver maybe gone but worth searching for varieties. I only do nickels and pennies and search for varieties so I figure that these are likely there even if the older stuff is gone. Even then I've gotten marked rolls with plenty of old stuff still left for discovery. I guess you never know for sure unless you get a brick of brand new coins.

The issue with these is that people re-use the rolls, so maybe these were sold to a store, then then rerolled with other coins and then returned them to the bank. Now your "marked roll" has completely different stuff in it.
Have you ever thought about this?

ace_ftw- you are absolutely correct. If I get a few loose rolls in a bundle that are marked, even if they were mine, I will recheck them for that exact reason.
I recently got a box that was marked on the outside, and all the rolls were taped and marked. I opened 10 and found that there was nothing older than 1982, no 2000p or 2001 no-p so I did not check the rest of the box.
Once I got a bunch of rolls marked "done" and there were nice coins to the 60's in them, so you can never be sure what other people are looking for.

A marked box? How does that work? For decades mine come sealed.

My point is really - Why waste the time to mark the rolls?
I dump in one bank, and pick up in a totally different branch, or bank company. I would never pick up at my dump bank, unless the teller had something special like silver dollars or 50 cent pieces (in Canada)
Even if I saw my own "Mark" (I don't mark my rolls) I would still open and search because of who knows where the roll has been or who has rerolled it

I mark them because I live in a town of about 6000 people. We have 3 banks. If more than one person is hunting one persons dump bank is the others pickup bank.

I did mark my rolls of quarters that I searched for the first few months but I never saw my mark ever again so I sorta stopped. I do buy at one bank and dump at a different one. The pennies I search I only really dump the heavily damaged or stained and then I put them in a TD coin machine.

I got a roll that I have marked before and since it wasn't one that was torn and had to be taped up I checked it and found an 82 half in it. Nothing really special, but I haven't let go of any of them yet so it means it had been opened somewhere and it had gotten shoved into it.
No boxes have ever had marked rolls.

For those who do not know what I mean about a marked box.

I have never even seen a box marked unless the bank was keeping track of how much money was in one they opened. That is all that was marked on the partial box of halves I got one time, and the rolls were still machine wrapped with some I kept.

that box is a strange one for sure. Never seen one like that, or anything close to it lol.

I used to draw something on my rolls when I turn them in so I would recognise them when I was in Mississauaga and I only lived within the walking distance of one bank. If I get my rolls back, I don't search them.
I don't roll hunt anymore since everything is plated here, even in rolls. Pretty pointless, really. Some branches don't even want to give out any customer rolls, all they give out are the plastic shrink wrapped ones.
6000 people, that's a small town. I grew up in a city where the population was around 9.5 million. Imagine the traffic jams!
