That would probably give it away. What I can tell you is that it's silver and not billon.

Was thinking about your comment re denomination while I was walking the dog. Was considering Byzantine Siliquae and Bulgarian Gros as the most likely candidates you didn't want to talk about. With Siliquae being less common within the overall series of Byzantines than the Gros within the Bulgarian, I decided to have a look at those first. In the end I settled on a guess, namely
Theodosius (III)?
Btw, in the end it is a Hexagram you have there, isn't it?

No. There is another silver denomination you didn't mention. No hexagram.

There are actually more than one apart from the (fractional) Siliquae: Tertarion Nomisma, Milliaresion plus some Trachies.
All that doesn't really make it that much easier, but I venture another guess:
Michael VII?

That's true there are several more. This coin is from the 10th century and this emperor of less than 10 years only issued one type of silver coin.
