Med - Our 40 degrees have gone (just now) and we are back to 30+ degrees, and we have had a few summer storms with the obligatory loss of power.
I don't relish your bushfires, having lived in Nunawading (Melbourne) in '83 for 'Ash Wednesday'. I NEVER want to see that again.

No bushfire close to me, the temperature has dropped a little, so might stay below the magical 100F.
Last year had a bigger bushfire ~30km (ie ~20miles) from here which destroyed a few homes, but luckily no-one died.
The only time I experienced a bushfire at close range was in Italy - rocks to the left dropping ~50m towards the sea and burning trees to the right, a few minutes later and we would have been stopped by a road-block, we were the last car through.
