Could this be chemical erosion or mint error. There is some green spots.Found in change.

Welcome to the Forum, mcloven!

I think you have a perfectly normal dime that has been buried in the ground for a few years and recovered, possibly with a metal detector. This sort of environmental damage is very common on buried cupro-nickel and clad coins. A rub with a wire brush or sandpaper (please don't do that on a coin of numismatic interest!) would probably bring back the 'silver' colour!

You could carry it in you pocket a few months and see how it looks antiqued. The silver color will show again on the tops of the devices and the fields will stay red colored.

Well thats good to know and looking at the pictures I think I solved the mystery of my disappearing carpenter pencil. Its laying on the ground. :)
