Hi all
Having purchased my first Old coin recently I couldn't resist another one when it appeared in my local shop, the mini history lesson was awesome so I couldn't stop myself.
It is labelled as
Egypt, Alexandria mint, silver, 4th century AD, Tetradrachm

Absolutely pop it out. Repost the pics so that we can see the legend.

Good site for these is:

Hi PishPash
I cant make out the legend at all, if it is there my eyes cant see it.
It weighs 7.42g and is the same size as a UK 5p coin.
As you can tell photography is not my strong point.

It's not silver per say but potin, it has a slight sivler content. This tets can be difficult to ID sometimes especially with a lack of the legend. But I believe this one is Diocletian similar to Milne 4769.

Found it
The reverse is " Dikaiosyne " holding a set of scales, she is the greek personification of justice.
Milne 4748
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction AGAIN Echizento, awesome knowledge you have there.
I don't like divulging what I pay but I would like to know that I am not over paying, I got it for £15 which seemed a very fair price to me. Would you say this was fair
Thanks again

Depending on condition they run from $35 to $75 US, so I think you got it for a good price.

It is fabulous in hand and one day I will take a picture that does it justice.

Awesome coin PishPash.
I will make sure that the legend is at least legible on the next one I buy which will certainly help.
Thanks again to both of you for your help
Until next time.

Hi MetDet
Is this really one of your coins ?
I have picked up several coins from the same shop recently which I use as trade tokens and keep some which I find interesting of which this is one of them.
I paid a little more than £15 as an individual piece but got others with it that brought this ones price down, plus I traded some threepenny bits in the other week which I have used as a pot for purchases like these.
Its a lot more interesting that's for sure.
Have we met or are you an anonymous contributor to the shop ? Did I meet you holding a nice Egyptian copper Billon ?
