Believe most of us would agree than any modern commemorative (1982 and later) would not have circulated in commerce for very long ... therefore the only 'worn' examples were most likely carried as pocket pieces. I visited my LCS today to purchase some 2x2 ... while inspecting all the bulk silver dollars ... came across this modern commemorative pocket piece. 1991-D USO Dollar - AU50 (raw) Great fun finding a 'circulated' example of the modern series ... surely more are out there. Show us what you have! David

Another collecting pursuit in the making?! My modern commemorative pocket piece is a US Mint commemorative medal rather than a coin (my other pocket piece is a 1927 Peace dollar). It's a bronze example of the 1976 National Bicentennial Medal.

When I misplaced my pocket piece last year I picked up a 1989 Congress Dollar because it is actually a great design but when it came it was to nice to sacrifice so I used a fingerprinted proof Ellis Island instead. The fingerprints wore off but the rest of the coin didn't wear much after a month. The hairlines and smudges in the first 2 pics were me trying to wipe the fingerprints off unsuccessfully hence the sacrifice.

Cool USO David! I love modern Commemorative Dollars... Heres my US Capitol Uncirculated Dollar pocketpiece. I have been carrying it for about a year now. As a life long Washingtonian (Northern VA), the combination of hometown relevance and a beautiful design makes this easily one of my favorites. High points are the horizontal rings to the right of "United States" on the obverse and the eagle's breast feathers on the reverse. My daughters fight over who gets to hold the coin every time we drive through DC on the way to Nats Park and the capitol dome is in sight! Personally, I think that the reverse of this coin is one of the best in ALL of US coinage.

Excellent examples so far ... Thanks for sharing. I admit to feeling guilty for having entombed the USO dollar in a 2x2 ... somebody cared enough for the coin to carry it daily for a while ... and now I have interrupted that journey with cardboard and plastic ... stored away in a 3-ring binder. My karma would benefit from finding a new home for the coin - a home where it can join into the daily pocket of a new owner and continue it's journey towards truly treasured condition. Wondering if anyone out there is willing to be the new loving host for this USO dollar and carry it daily in their pocket? Perhaps I'll spin up an essay contest in the "Contest/Giveaway" section ... and give the USO dollar a chance for release from the 2x2 tomb. David

I've been wondering how that Ellis Island dollar was doing.

The Capitol one has only been harshly cleaned, not circulated. The Lincoln looks suspect. Almost counterfeit. Unless someone "antiqued" it like they do to silver rounds. My Ellis Island after 1 1/2 years
