Hey all, I came across this coin in a roll last night. I was wondering if anyone could help me decide if this is a Wide AM 1996 Cent? It's in pretty rough shape, and the pictures aren't the best as I still trying to master taking decent pictures

Close AM. The zinc rot is making the gap between the letters seem wider, but your coin is missing the serif on the G on FG.

Welcome to CC!

Keep trying, that's a CLAM. You can tell by the distance of the FG from the building.

Remember this opposite thingy I use:

FG close = wide
FG far = close

FG is too far from the memorial. Rot and die state can make these type of coins difficult to attribute by only looking at "AM"....Fellow CCF member Coop gave me a great tip when it comes to the Wide AM cents.(atleast this applied to the 1998-s Close AM proof)..... Look at the "A" in states. See how yours is off center from the T's? On the Wide AM, Your A should be centered..........I dont want to use his pictures without permission, but you can see what I am talking about by looking at this post.....

keep hunting and good luck.

The "M" on AMERICA is not centered. It is to the left like Close AM's are. The spacing between the AME is what is important. If the M is of center it is a Close AM. If the M is centered between the AME then it is Wide AM.
