I was wondering whether you have found any SMS (Special Mint Set) coins while roll hunting? These coins replaced proof coins for a brief time shortly after 1964.

How do you tell them apart from the rest?

Like early proof coins, it isn't easy if the original luster is lost to circulation. The overall strike would be some indicator, although I am sure there is some overlap with the business strikes there. There may be some unique die markers, but I am not aware of any.

I've found plenty of proof coins, but no SMS coins. I am sure that someone, somewhere has put them into circulation, however.
