Actually that is interesting. I was born and raised in Brookyln in the 50's and 60's. If I remember right it was Bell Telephone than.

Yes, it was all part of the Bell System which was owned by ATT and known as Bell Telephone. The antitrust ruling broke up The Bell System and all the Baby Bells emerged.

If one is old enough and followed such things it might be remembered how the doomsdayers and conspiracy idiots where sure that the Bell System was secretly running the country. Oh, how the mighty has fallen.

But enough of that rot. Back to enjoying some cool tokens.

echizento, keep those nice historical medals coming. I just registered for this forum tonight partly because of my interest in this area of numismatics. I have in my collection two of those you show and discuss.

I have 190 Belgian historical medals plus the Belgians distributed in the 17 pages of my exposition section of my records. Then there are the 41 Wiener Cathedral and other Van Hoydonck medals. No Albert, I won't overburden you. Most of these I haven't even photographed, and haven't tried to post pix here yet.

Albert, the greatest number of my Belgiums came from Whitford Auctions in Grand Rapids Michigan. As I recall Craig W. ran the company founded by Joseph Lepzyk, longer than anyone else. It is now run by Steve Davis. In a Whitford auction about 2006 I got six different dandy Wiener Cathedrals which if submitted for grading would, I am certain, come back MS 65 or better. My only regret is that I didn't bid even more aggressively in that auction as there were around 25 different and all in remarkably good condition.

I see at the top of my Belgium collection, a medal by Hondt. It is an 1831 bronze 47mm Crowning of Leopold I in XF condition. The most common engraver is Hart, as I have a lot by him.

echizento, I will have to get busy with my Nicon D90 and try my hand at posting pix.

obv: Leopold I king of the Belgians / elected
