Did we Canadians copy that design of the branches attached by the bow? It looks extremely similar to our early 1900's 25 cent pieces...any ideas?

No - it's just a generic design used by almost everybody at some point.

A while back I made a compilation of coins with nothing but wreaths and words on them:

@ 'nalaberong', if you like those wreaths you better get some Roman coins - here one example of a quite common reverse:

That is just sweet...answered my question perfectly. I have definitely seen most of those coins but I guess I never put two and two together...great compilation!

Leaves are not simply generic designs. They each have meanings,

Laurel was given to winners of races from Greek time onwards.

Oak was used for strength and wealth.

Coin designs have many more symbolic meanings than you might imagine.
