*NOTE: I am not a professional or an expert. I'm simply a begginer looking for answers and looking to understand what I'm reading on all posts. With that said....

You are welcome to input your opinions, advice, or share your story on how it was for you when you first started collecting coins

First things first: I read on posts things like "year" + " DDO" " DDR" "VCR" ect.... well in able for me to properly understand what everyone is talking about, I need help after all... you all were beginners at one point

I hope my exergues are not showing!

Not quite a language, but numismatics does have a small dictionary unto itself.

I think the glossary should be a sticky in the welcome forum/threads.
Every beginner should take the time (and it really does't take that much time) to read through the glossary to familiarize themselves with the language of numismatics.

It makes this forum 10 more fun to participate in, if you understand what everyone is talking about

If the word is highlighted click on it or check the glossary left of page.

Not sure how old you are of if you work. However, once you do you'll find that almost every place you go has a sort of own dictionary. Ever listen to doctors and nurses? Police? Firefighters? Sometimes in the news it is difficult to understand what is being said. For example they say things like NRA, or PBS, or HMO, PPO, IRA, K401 and on and on with letters that your supposed to know.
I too find it irritating to have to go to the glossary to find out what is being said. Yet we all do it. And sometimes it gets embarrasing. Once I was at a meeting and everyone kept mentioning PSI. I finally said OK, maybe I'm not to smart but what is PSI. Most would think it's Pounds Per Inch but it turned out to be the name of the clients company. DUH.

The word we all need to recognize is 'jargon.' Every field has its own jargon and coins are no exception.
Jargon is a shorthand. It's SO much easier to say "VDB" than Victor D. Brenner.
DDO is three syllables: double die obverse is five.
On this point I come down on the side of the new people. We seasoned collectors need to take the extra
few seconds to actually USE the full description of a term. Well, at least I do.

Eva, I do feel for you. In time you'll learn the ropes/jargon and be more comfortable.

VCR: Videocassette Recorder.

I have no idea of any other definition...
