For a while now I was wondering about this piece here

http://www.ebay.com/itm/25175342075....m1555.l2649

Taking a look on the NGC page it seems that the catalog value is quite high.

And I have been trying to find records of previous sales of this type, but I have not been able to find much really.

One sold recently on ebay for I $230.

And one more just popped up with a starting bid of $527
I look out for these every now and then but they are not offered very often.

Someone told me that they are actually quite common in france...

Going by the appeal of the coin in the link in what price range would you value this piece ?

for french coins,I always check up the value on http://www.cgb.fr . In the archives you have 123 coins of 5 fr from 1815 , in the 'boutiques ' only 13 to sell .For coins from 1792 on you have to look in the 'monnaies modernes' and then at left the period , the value , the date and so on .

Some of the early 19th century European crown sized silver coins (particularly the French), in lower grades can be surprisingly cheap.

Neveretheless this one looks a bit coppery: could be just the lighting. This leads to thought and fact that there are quite a fakes out there.

Need to check the established and independently third party provable reputation of the seller.
