I have this early Greek (?) Coin that I am having trouble identifying. It came with several other (unrelated) coins in a purchase from ebay. It is a bronze coin AE 17, and weighs 3.9 gm. It has a figure on the Obv. and an anchor on the Rev. Apart from that I have little to add.
Syracuse?
Any help would be welcome.

Your right Ski, the coin 2 as almost certainly minted in Apollina Pontica. The Traci an anchor gives it away. TC I would hark the hale and go that way.

Ski, A.N., CM, and Med. Thanks for the great help on this one. I am going with 'Apollo standing with branch and bow'.

I had nothing, now I have enough to go on the 2x2 and somewhere to go, to 'research'.

Med. Thanks for the link, I can scroll back and forward, so I will keep that for future reference. Big help.

Just remembered that Wildwinds has listing of Moushmov entries for various cities in Thrace, the relevant for Apollonia is http://www.wildwinds.com/moushmov/a...pontika.html

That listing contains two entries with Apollo standing, namely
3165 Apollo naked standing, with right hand reaching out toward trunk, holding in left hand lyre. Rev. : Anchor.
3166 Apollo in women's clothes standing left. Rev. : EIKYÎ"H. Anchor, crab and A.

But you might need to get a comment from someone who has Varbanov's catalogue on hand to settle the attribution for good.

I have waited to see if someone who has Varbanov's catalogue would come in, but (so far) no luck.

While waiting, I have sent myself cross-eyed looking up all of the Moushmov entries and as I cannot see the 'women's clothes' on my Apollo I am going to have to go with Moushmov's 3165.

Thanks for the reference to Moushmov (from Wildwinds) by the way. I hadn't found that before.
When I first opened your link there was a 'target' at the top of the page with an arrow left and right so that I could 'scroll' but that has now mysteriously disappeared.
