This coin/token was mixed in with a small collection of ancients I picked up recently. Mostly low grade Roman/Greek with some medieval European and a few Chinese thrown in as well. This was with the Chinese coins, and it may well also be Chinese, but it's stylistically different from the others. It's missing the margin around the edge, and the 4 lines on it don't appear to be a mach for any Chinese coins I have found online. This leads me to believe that either 1) it's a token, not a coin, or 2) it isn't Chinese. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

It is a Chinese coin and the inscription reads wen xin (æ-‡ä¿¡).

The coin is believed to have been cast by the State of Qin (250 BC - 220 BC) during the Warring States Period.

However, there is some controversy regarding who actually cast the coin and when.

Some believe it was the Marquis of Chang An.

You can see what appears to be an authentic specimen of the coin here.

These coins are very rare.

As you might expect, there are many reproductions (fakes) of this coin.

Unfortunately, your coin is a reproduction.

Well, that's a bummer, but thanks for the definitive ID and that it's a fake. Now I'm wondering about the other Chinese coins. I'm pretty comfortable that the rest of the stuff (non Chinese) is authentic.

"Cash" is the English name given to this style of Chinese coin with the square hole in it, not the name of the hole itself. The name "cash" is not Chinese in origin. The Chinese call cash coins "qian" (money), or more specifically "fang kong qian" (square hole money).
