The history behind a wedding medal is probably a bit self explanatory =) But I was wondering where it came from, was it handed out to guests or bought in a souvenir shop 50 years later? Is it "genuine" to the era, to the time of the wedding?

It seems that I can't find a single picture of it on Google more than a copper/bronze one that wasn't made for hanging, mine is silver or white-alloy.
No info on how many there were made or if it's a 'collectable' today

Looks like it was struck over or on a coin or medal, note the flat looking letters, also Greek, on the obverse from 10-1 o'clock.
