It figures ebay didn't do anything. I few sorry for whoever bought it. That's a $4100 loss. Shame of Saxby and shame on ebay.

Are there any type of laws in the UK that prevent the sale of fake antiquities?

It makes my blood boil to think this guy routinely gets away with his crimes. Having said that, you would think the buyer would take at least a smidgen of precaution and do the tiniest bit of research before shelling out this type of money.
Type in Decius Aureus on forgery network and the first coin that appears is the die match to this one.
It reminds me of pedestrians who have the right away when crossing the street, sometimes wearing all dark clothes on a darkly lit crosswalk, and just strut out there without the slightest concern just assuming that nothing bad could ever happen
Same thing with the Hostilian, first coin that pops up on Forgery Network

There should be something under Fraud, but I don't see anything on the website that actually guarantees the items as genuine. If I shelled out a huge amount of money, I would definitely have it authenticated immediately after purchase. I doubt that I would shell out thousands for a coin with no provenance in the first place.

A simple check of his feedback shows that he has sold fake coins in the past. I blame ebay for allowing him to continue selling. Though I guess even if they blocked him he can come back under another name. I don"t believe ebay tracks IP addresses.

He certainly would come back under another name, but at least he would have to start with a low sale count which might make people more cautious.

I think that at the end of the day he makes ebay a lot of money, and that outweighs anything else.

At one time ebay did not hide the idenities of the bidders.I remember on a couple of occasions I was able to contact the buyer and alert them to a possible fake or shill bidding.Ebay has done more to protect sellers than buyers
