Hi, I have been offered a 1921D Walking half dollar, however I know there are fake versions of this coin about. Can anyone tell from the attached photos, if this the coin is the real deal? Thanks in advance!

The rim on the reverse bottom looks very odd which may indicate a cast copy. Have you seen the coin in hand?

No, its a online seller who a friend purchases a few cheap low value coins from. I won't be able to see it in person until I pay for it and it arrives in the post.

with Jimbucks. The rim does look odd, but it could be post mint damage as well. Can you post a clearer pic of that area?

1921-D is a rare Walker in all grades. I would stay away from them categorically if not slabbed. I think this one is a phony probably cast and made from lead.

From the parts and pictures that you have shown, it looks alright to me, definite PMD. But I would have to see some clear focused pictures of the entire obverse and reverse, to give a definitive opinion.

That rim anomaly could equal a cast copy. I'd steer clear.
That said I did buy my 1921-D raw. It is a well circulated AG that looks every bit the part of a 1921-D coin. The "D" mintmark has a similar triangular shaped center open area as the 1916-D Merc dime. Most 1921-D's circulated for quite a while as they really were not recognized as rare until much later. I also bought it from a reputable dealer.

I'm with denco7 on this. Also, I would like to know what kind of feedback they have and number of coin sales they have. Most importantly, me personally, would prefer a coin like that to be slabbed.

At a flea market a guy was selling a lot of faked coins. That 21D Walker was one of them. Or one that looked like the one your posting. When it comes to so many expensive coins today the best thing and safest thing to do it get a slabbed one. Unfortunately even some of those slabs are fakes.
