I know very little about these but does this coin look correct.I mean it looks like the gold has rubbed off in places exposing something other than gold. Does it look genuine to you or is this how they look? Thanks for any input

I wouldn't touch it. I don't collect those, but I wouldn't trust any realtively high dollar coin from ebay raw.
Rest in Peace

Looks like an S mint mark to me and possibly a high-jacked account. Run away.

Well, he claims it came from Lear Capital, a legit seller, and he's going to include the documentation. Honestly? He didn't put a Reserve on it. This thing could go cheap, it's probably real, and you can force a SNAD refund anytime you want if it's counterfeit. Yeah, if I had the money I'd be a bidder.

Just note, it's a San Francisco coin, not a Carson City one. No premium to speak of, unlike the CC.

Looks like a "S" mintmark, rather than a "CC". No matter what the date or mintmark, a double eagle is best bought in a PCGS or NGC holder. My 1883-CC is NGC AU-55.

The rub marks look normal to me. The obverse scratch looks like cleaning. 14 day return. I wouldn't do it, but if I were I'd weigh it right away.

For me at that price it needs to be authenticated.

Seller has a "1" feedback rating. Even if you are a gambler, I'd let someone else play this round.

After it was pointed out to me It's an "S" Mint mark & not a CC I sent the seller a message about the discrepancy. He has chosen to ignore this fact as no reply was given & nothing in the listing has changed. Criminal intent in my book

He ended the auction and asked me how to fix it. Lucky for him, he had no bids.
