This is a scary (but impressive) clash. There's even some on her face behind her eye which is raised.

That's pretty wild, have a picture of the reverse?

No sign of a clash on the reverse.

Maybe a vise job unfortunately?

If it were a vise job, I would expect to see the reverse design uninterrupted on the devices of the obverse as well.

I'm certain this isn't a vise job, because the "clash letters" go under the devices, not flatten it. I'll find my loupe get a close up of one of those letters. Edit: A vise job would flatten these letters, won't it?

Why is the N mirrored and the E is not? Fantasy piece?

I like that theory. If the dies hit that hard, you would expect some clashing on the reverse. Plus the denticles look terrible. Add your observation as well and I can see it being a fake or fantasy piece.

Because it's not supposed to? Mirror E horizontally and then rotate it 180 degrees, it looks upright.

I'm almost positive it's counterfeit. The center of the obverse has the characteristic softness of such, and I've never seen a clash that far rotated on a Morgan before - the wing line on the neck is way too low. Denticles aren't too healthy either. Can you post the reverse?
Morgans were struck at 150 tons pressure by presses built by (ironically) Morgan & Orr here in Philadelphia.

Here's the reverse. 150 tons... what would that do to a human?

Quote: 150 tons... what would that do to a human? What interests me more is even that monumental force can't squish grease. I have the same objection to the reverse as the obverse - too weak. For the center to be that flat from wear, the wing upper edges should be wearing, as should the bottom largest leaves. Those leaves, if the center weakness is strike artifact, should have lost almost all detail too. They're just as deep as the breast. Let's await more opinion. And the clash itself isn't just hard, it's a caricature. I don't think any Morgan has ever been seen clashed that hard.

Come to think of it, it DOES look fake. The date is all wrong. The 8s are too fat and rounded.

Well, it's typical that letters will "look" fatter as a coin wears, because their sides are conical rather than vertical, so you have to factor that. I'm on my phone and haven't looked at it on a monitor yet.

Packers game ended, so I had a moment to come upstairs to the PC. Aside everything else, the whole centers just look too fuzzy.
