I have searched the forum on handling coins and have some questions. There is a great deal of good info about whether using bare hands is OK or not, gloves (cotton or latex), handling the edge only, avoid breathing on etc. What I haven't seen though is how to go about getting coins out of coin tubes or mint rolls to avoid getting dings or scratches on them. Anyone have a good process to share?
This video makes me shudder. I bet even those "nice and shiny" end-roll coins are that way as soon as he dips them. But he is getting hairlines all over them from fingering the fields with those gloves.
When I first started collecting as a young man I did a lot of ignorant things, but at least I did not broadcast my ignorance to the world by putting it all on youtube! To answer your question about how to handle coins in tubes is "very carefully". Unfortunately there is no good way.
As far as tubes go take the top off and flip it upside down on a table then lift off the tube. As for getting them in the tube same thing, unless you don't have a full tube worth - then it gets ugly
