Thought this may interest some, it certainly is something cool that happened to my family. We have an elderly friend of the family from New Orleans. During the Katrina crisis her retirement home was closed down for a few months. During that time she lived with our family here is Atlanta. She is back now and we visited her this past week. She knew I collected coins and brought out 6 gold pieces and gave them to me as a thank you for our hospitality!

They were Swiss 20 franc gold pieces. When she was younger she had to flee here home in Belgium because the Germans were on their way. The had all they own turned into gold, uncertain of what their refugee status may hold. These were sewn into her blouse and carried with her. She has had them ever since and figured she would give them to us for helping here through her second time as a refugee! I was amazed and surprised. I am working on some pictures but thought the story would be of some interest to those on this board. By the way - these are my first gold pieces and I will cherish them for a long time.

Very cool story and very kind of your family for taking her in when she had nowhere else to go. You deserve it. Congrads!

Working on the pics. I got into it during my 2 yr. old's first nap, but didn't get far before she woke up. Hope to figure out how to take some good ones this evening.
