A couple of years ago I was holidaying in the States. Being a coin collector who also enjoys the odd note, when in Washington DC I made a beeline for the Bureau Of Engraving and Printing.

It just so happened that at the very time I was there, the Treasurer Rosa was too, and we could exchange a $1 note for an uncirculated one, which she signed.

I was just wondering how often she does this, and how collectable this signed note would be? For me it's a pretty cool souvenir and as I am planning another holiday, I was wondering what the chances are of getting another one? :-)

Gemma.

If you mail a note to her at the Treasury Dept, she will sign it and they will send it back to you. I also got former Secretary Geithner to sign one for me as well, even though he had left the job. Most are pretty good about doing it. I soon will be sending one off to Secretary Lew.

Collectablility depends on how many she has signed and her popularity. Some officials have signed a lot, others not as many. The other one I have is former Secretary G. William Miller from the Carter Administration. He is the only person to have served as both Fed Reserve Chair and Treasury Secretary.

Note: I can see from the signature on yours and mine they are not auto penned. There are distinct differences in the signatures.

That's interesting!
I don't think anyone here would sign our notes. You're not supposed to deface them anyway. Those polymer ones are also not so easy to write on nicely.
Not auto penned, no. She signed it in front of me at the table, while we were chatting.

Send a 5'er to the Reserve Bank of Australia governor and see what happens. I bet he will sign it and send it back. Just make sure the note has Mr. Stevens facsimile signature on it ;)

Rosie Rios makes regular appearances at public events to sign notes -- she was at the first day of this year's FUN coin show in Orlando on Jan 8 and I stood in a lengthy line to have her sign one much like yours. I thought it neat that they were using 888 notes for the signing. Best $1 souvenir they had at the show!

Even more fun for me was getting US mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart to sign my Bust Half Overton book two days later. That was really cool! Just look for the DE on modern coins and that is his work.

Here's a shot of Don doing some demonstration work at the show. Really nice guy, I talked with him for about 15 minutes on his work.
