Have you tried re-imaging them larger so you can see the legends a bit better and then plugging the legends into Wildwinds.com?

My son and I have done the dirty stanky Roman thing a couple of times, and actually id'd them down to Constantine I, Heraclea mint. We would like to buy another lot sometime on Vcoins.com and do some more identifying. They are cheap, and really a fun challenge to identify.

These scans are already enhanced , but I did not try to attribute them my self yet. I do have a book on Roman coins, for me it is a way to get others interested as well

The second coin is an antoninianus of Emperor Probus (276-282 AD).

Here are some more details on the second coin-

Probus Æ Antoninianus. IMP C M AVR PROBVS AVG, radiate, helmeted and cuirassed bust left, holding spear and shield / VIRTVS PROBI AVG, Probus galloping right, spearing enemy whose shield lies beneath the horse, probably KAD in exergue.

The first coin may be Constantius (Constantine) but I think it is probably Constantius II with the "FEL TEMP REPARATIO" reverse legend and showing a fallen horseman speared by a Roman soldier.

Thank you t360, Vaslin, and Scottishmoney for your comments and info.

I only paid $5.00 a piece for them. Do you think that was a good price. I thought about buying his whole 2 pages of them. They were all readable and prices were fair. But I guess the saying my eyes were bigger than my appetite come in to play.

$5 isn't expensive at all for readable romans.

I recommend buying the dirty ones and enjoy the fun of cleaning them yourself!

The first coin is indeed Constantius II. Constantine I did not issue this type of coin. The coin is from the mint of Nicomedia, and looks like RIC VIII Nicomedia 84, though the exergue is not clear.
