so I was wondering if there was another variety of this e/f variety... what I mean is this one looks different from others I have seen including the ones I have ,
first the ones I have seen are missing the right side of the r in brunswick, the top of ne of one is also missing, and I know that it is difficult to see through the plastic but the E of ED doesn't look quite the same as the ones I have seen, anyone else agree?

I believe that there are two different Reverse with the same Obverse E/F the one you mention with the R in New Brunswick missing the lower left part of the R and this one on e-bay that you are showing with out anything missing on the Reverse. I have 2 in possession and have had about 5 or 6 of them but have had none with this Reverse that you are showing from e-bay, although I have seen two to date

interesting, I never knew there were 2 reverses. wonder why this variety isn't recognized by any catalog or price guide, heck, not even Charlton lists it.

Jack Griffin doesn't mention prices in his books but he did mention that the coin is a Rarity of 8 which is the rarest in his books nothing higher in his rarity scale, the only thing he mentions about the Reverse is the 4 slants righ and is lower. Its in his monograph 4 Newfoundland and British North America Die Varieties of Cents and Half Cents 1861 to 1936

Charlton Press acquired the copyright to Jack Griffin's work. It looks like Monograph #1 and Monograph #3 are available, but you would have to call to check.

Yes roger (Spp) is correct Charlton Press do have some left, they are very good books if you collect Varieties Monograph 1 is a very good book as well but you should not go by the pictures to most of the literature with it as lots got mixed up when publishing the book and they are not matched proper with picture to the wright up could be wrong but still a very good reference book. Look at the pictures and read about the varieties out there that he found there are many to look for good luck

you would think that one would be more rare than the other so maybe rarity 8 and 9?

I think that the Reverse with all parts of lettering intact is the harder one to find I have only seen 2 of them counting this one on e-bay to date and I never even saw one for at least 2-3 years after I found my first one with the lettering missing . I have had at least 6 in my position of the other type (with the missing part of the R)and I have seen several more on e-bay for sale one time or another.
