As the State Quarter program comes to a close, it got me thinking about some of the various designs from each state. I thought about my likes and dislikes. Which designs were historically significant and which were a little lame. I am curious to know, what three favorite designs everyone likes and which three designs are disliked. Also which of these designs are appealing to you and which ones don't. My three favorite quarters are: 1. New Jersey (OK I'm a little biased, since its my home state, although Washington crossing the Delaware river is a major historical event in our nations history). 2. Virginia (The founding of Jamestown as being the first permanent English settlement is historical significant). 3. Kansas (I love the forward facing Bison. Its the only coin I can think of with a forward facing Bison on the Reverse). Now for my dislikes: 1. Pennsylvania (A state with so much history should have put out a better design). 2. Illinois (I loved the idea of putting Lincoln on the reverse, I just don't like to see him with his feet missing). 3. Colorado (I just don't like the design). I hope this post doesn't offend any one's home state. My intentions are to see which State Quarters are liked or disliked. I'm sure some people are going to dislike the Great State Of New Jersey. I just realized, I finally reached my 1000th post.

Congratulations on your 1000 posts. I don't know that I can pick 3 favourites, but the one I dislike most is this.... _USA_Montana_State_Quarter.jpg) Steve

I really like the State Quarter for Mississippi. The Magnolia blossoms are just appealing to me. Other favourites include the Connecticut quarter with the Charter Oak tree, and the Wisconsin quarter with the placid looking cow on it. The varieties of the Wisconsin didn't really have anything to do with that, either. As for the ones that I don't like so much, they are: the Tennessee quarter, the Indiana quarter, the Florida quarter and the latest offering, the Wyoming quarter. Tennessee certainly has a musical heritage to celebrate, it's just that the trio of instruments aren't aesthetically pleasing. Indiana has a lot of racing heritage, but that race car just looks ... off. The Florida quarter seems unbalanced with the tiny sailing ship and huge space shuttle, and the Wyoming quarter is so flat! No details, just the lump of bronco and rider shaped metal to it.

I like Nevada best, at least so far. It's the only one that gives one a real sense of motion. All the others -- even those with potential for movement (a race car, a horse and rider, rowers on the Delaware) -- are just too static. Jan

Gotta go with CT...the detail on the Charter Oak is impressive and the design is simple yet elegant.

My three favorites are Vermont and the maple trees, Conneticut and the charter oak, and Mississippi and the Magnolias. My least favorites are New Hampshire's Old man of the mountain, Colorado's mountain scene, and Wyoming's bucking bronco. I think many states could have come up with better designs but there are also many states that I like. I'm kind of fond of Wisconsin's cow, corn, and cheese and Rhode island's sailboat; While, I find the design, of my home state of Texas, boring.

I also agree that both the Connecticut and Mississippi designs are well done, for all the reasons listed above. I'm also fond of the Oregon in its accuracy of the natural scene. Not so good - Florida (three disjointed motifs). I think that using just one of those three images could have made for better representation of the state. Kind of the same way I feel about the California - although there's more connection in the design themes - it's too busy & cluttered in my opinion. And any of the State Quarters that rely on an outline of the state to convey the image. But hey - every single one is better than I could have done!!

My favorite is CT. I liked it when it came out and don't see anything that I like better. There is nothing more elegant that a healthy tree that has stood the test of time. Put is on a coin and you have the perfect blend as far as I am concerned. The magnolia of Mississippi comes in a close second. As a native of Illinois I really don't care for it's quarter. Like the previous post, I really like the idea of Lincoln on a coins reverse but the State Quarter was not what I was hoping for. Maybe my expectations for the mint were just too high.

My Fav's (One already released, two planned) Idaho Oklahoma and Alaska Least Favorites - Texas, Ohio, South Carolina (lack imagination) For those who don't like Wyoming's Bucking Bronco design, these were the designs not chosen: These were actual submissions from grade school children for the Wyoming design. Wyoming showed class by including them in the "official" submissions page.

I do like the Alaska design. It might be my favorite. I like WV (no bias). It has nice symmetry with the New River Gorge Bridge spanning the width, and the mountains below are nice and frosty on the proofs. Jim
