Hey all I'm new to the forums. While I'm introducing myself I'd also like to ask how much this penny of mine is worth.

It's a 1901 Indian Head penny. It seems in pretty good shape but dirty. I don't know much about coin collecting...what is the best way to wash it so that it looks better but doesn't get ruined or loose its value.
Sorry for the lousy pics. It was the best my camera could do.

Whatever you do, don't wash it. The first rule to coin collecting is to never clean a coin.

Its hard for me to tell what condition your Indian Head cent is in. A 1901 is a common cent, and the value is not too high. Maybe a couple of bucks, depending on the condition.

Thank you for the welcome and thank you for the info. How common is a 1939 dime?

The 1939 is fairly common in circulated condition. If it grades higher, then it becomes less common and could be worth a good amount of money.

a 1939 dime would be a Mercury dime and it is one of the very common dates for that series also and only worth about 30 bucks in very very high grades (like MS-67)in lower grades they can be found in junk boxes in dealers stores for a couple bucks, the 1939-S Mercury dime would be worth a little more but still nothing that is going to be a retirement piece

Does the Dime have a mint mark ?

The mint mark would be on the back of the coin at the bottom just to the left of center beside the bundle of sticks .

For your 1939 Mercury dime, look at the reverse and just to the SouthWest of the word "ONE", you might see a 'S' or a 'D'.

None means that the coin was minted in Philadelphia.
S is for San Francisco.
D is for Denver

Welcome to the forums!

One of the key grading criteria for an Indian are the letters LIBERTY in the head dress. I can't tell from the picture, but can you read it on your coin? Can you see any of the letters?

Take a look at this picture,, the mint mark is the small D at the bottom in between the word one and the bundle of sticks .

It either came from the Philadelphia mint, or depending on the condition, it could have worn off.
