1795 Time Capsule Buried By Sam Adams, Paul Revere To Be Opened Quote: BOSTON (AP) - " The public is getting its first glimpse inside a time capsule dating to 1795 and believed placed by Samuel Adams and other Revolutionary War figures.
Officials already have a good idea of the contents, which will be displayed Tuesday evening at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
The original capsule was made of cowhide and believed to have been embedded in a cornerstone when construction on the state Capitol building began in 1795. Adams was governor at the time.
The contents were shifted to a copper box in 1855 which was unearthed last month at the Statehouse. Officials say old records and X-rays taken in December after the box was located and removed indicate it contains old coins, documents, newspapers and a metal plate owned by Paul Revere. Too bad it's not being broadcast live. I'm sure the contents are more interesting than "Al Capone's safe" if anyone remembers that live broadcast years ago.

Quote: Can't wait to hear about which coins are inside, and what shape they are in. Me too. I wonder if they will get them graded with some kind of special label. I'll be waiting for pics. That Paul Revere copper plate should also be interesting.

Awesome! The coins look like they may be in nice shape. I hope they do better than normal museum conservation (i.e. get a specialist in coin conservation).

I got the chills seeing a guy looking really close and apparently breathing directly on the items. Bad.

What I am wondering is who is the actual owner of the items? The US govt? The commonwealth of MA? The city of Boston? Who are the decision makers?
