Hi,

I'm relatively new to coins, essentially I inherited a few sets from relatives which has piqued my interest. While I have a few American coins none of them have captured my interest except perhaps the half eagle. I would like to get a nice example of one, without breaking the bank and was wondering what folks would recommend in terms of year/mm? As I am in Australia, my LCS doesn't really stock them, so where would you recommend for reliable, honest pricing that can ship to Australia (or possibly Canada).

Thanks very much!

I've had good luck with David Lawrence recently. Coins come and go, and right now the pickings are slim on the $5 Indian, which is more interesting to me than the earlier Liberties.

None of these coins is scarce but they are representative and certified. If they interest you make an offer and see where it leads.

Another dealer I like, with considerably more stock, is Harlan Berk

Thanks guys, I appreciate the links. Any thoughts on good dates to go for? I guess I'd probably go for more common, better condition as I'm really only looking for a good example of the coin.

Thanks!

Register at Heritage Auctions (ha.com). It's free and doesn't require financial data, and gives you access to their enormous archive of past coin auctions. In there you will find all the data you need to find which issues are easiest and cheapest in grade, and a good idea what people are actually paying for them in the real world. This issue is right up their alley.
