No, it's an altered coin. Here is the email that I sent the seller: FYI: In the early 1970's, there were a number of novelty cents being produced (some even at the Mint). Some of these had images of other presidents, some had various other items like the "Smoking a Pipe" cent that had a perfectly engraved image of a pipe with smoke rings. It is in all likelihood, electroplated with a finish. If you truly believe this coin to be a genuine numismatic find, I would strongly suggest that you send it to ANACS to get authenticated - especially since you are looking to get $3.5 million for this coin. Submission is only $20+ Return shipping/insurance. Very reasonable for a coin that you claim is worth millions. I would also suggest that this coin would need to be authenticated in a slab in order for a seller with 0 feedback to get any real money for a coin on ebay.
SusanThe fact that they won't even take it out of the (probably damaging) holder to weigh it is just plain silly. The fact that the seller has a 0 feedback means that I doubt anyone (even a new collector) is at risk to pay this exorbitant amount. In my opinion, the coin is worth about $1 to collectors of altered Lincolns. WOW!!!

The Mint does not make novlety coins. There are so many varieties that is it hard to come up with something new. People have been doing this kind of thing for years, and people (new collectors) still fall for it.

Actually, ND, when I was a child, we had a field trip to the Philadelphia Mint. I purchased a Lincoln/Kennedy penny there as a souvenir, so I know that the Mint was at least selling them for a while.
