The size and weight are correct. Not sure about the color due to the glare. The face and neck look rough. Lets see what those who know at CCF know.

If I reduce the contrast in my mind's eye, this *could* be a genuine quarter eagle.

However, better pictures that aren't over-exposed are a must in order to make a proper judgement.

The pictures are a little tough to be authenticating from but the coin looks promising.

I would feel much more confident purchasing this one than the 1868 gold dollar on your other post.

I'd have to say its real based on these images. Definitely a struck (ie not cast) piece. The details and lettering look correct, it even looks like it has light bagmarks - though a fake could have circulated, but IIRC it did not make sense to counterfiet a coin out of gold since the face value was tied to the gold content. And its not a key date either.
