Maybe I don't understand what you guys are hoping to accomplish here with this format. I didn't know that this was going to be a show-and-tell or a look-what-I-have thread going. I thought that it was supposed to be coins that members had that they wanted to know more about or had real questions on. I'll answer questions if something is posted, but don't intend to show anything. I've got 15-20 1858's but I already know what they are and what I have them marked as. I have zero photography skills and even less than that as far as a camera.

Show and tell sometimes brings out an interesting observation by one or another.

Someone thought that my cent might have a completed vine. Now we know the answer "for sure". I also wondered about this one.

Now okiecoiner,..I also asked about the parallel lines that connect each of the lower denticles of my posted cent.
I have no idea how they come to exist,..but would like to.

Is this something that you've observed often on large cents.?..and possibly know why? I haven't seen or read about anything on this effect between the denticles.

Maybe it's just tooling marks...but I don't know..

Your comments are always appreciated and endless emails to Rob is not fair to him (or to you for that matter).. So although he requested emails,..I feel that it's not really fair to him,..whereas here,.. I might receive a few expert opinions from "keeners" and/or experts alike..

We are a fairly small group here in the large cents..

Oakie,
answering your question is relatively easy.
originally I posted 2 questions about 59s. one of the 2 posts got carried away "into libraries" and became a post that had nothing to do with the original subject.
then another fellow started a post wanting to get support for a new permanent topic on large cents. Mods got involved. And so on..
while nobody really got anywhere that way, I decided to just start a new post and subject, beginning with the 1858 Cent.
all I asked is that each year be given a chance and everyone
can post images, ask questions, comment or whatever.
I hope every poster will have his post in the correct topic and year. This way a lot of possible confusion is avoided.
Once one year is exhausted, or close to it, someone, anyone, can post the next step / year following, in this case the 1858 59 ? 8/9.
If everyone respects the sequence, eventually we should have a great and interesting "library" for the large cents right here on the forum.
Naturally, anyone can always and at any time re-open any year.
What I also hope is that every poster will try to stick to the respective topic and would avoid to go into "other and not even closely related" stuff.
ANYONE, with little, none, or a ton of knowledge on the subject is always welcome to participate.

I look forward to seeing some nice large cents here over the next little while.

Here is my 1858 contribution. I have no idea as to the die pairings etc, but I do love the 5 over 5 variety. the first 8 is also doubled, but not nearly as nice as the 5!

tfred...That is one sweet 1858..

It's an RC1-OC1 by my estimate ..Rob's estimate is that ~1.33% used that die in the 58's..so a nice high grade "tough one".

Besides the d/c at leaf/stem #12 ...let us know where the other fine rev d/c's are ...

There are a whole whack of RP'd 5's in Rob's book on the 58's.. Yours is a really great one..

This coin has been graded as AU55. Upon closer examination, it looks as though it may have been slightly cleaned. too bad. The die crack on the reverse are as follows:
Leaf 5...from the tip going up. very faint
Leaf 10 ...from stem to rim
Leaf 12...from stem to rim
Leaf 15...across the top to the rim

tfred..It's like I described before..A very tough one to find in your high grade.

You should also see a faint long running d/c from the base of leaf 4 running down and along near each leaf over to near leaf #7.

This last d/c would parallel the rim and curve around the coin,..finishing near leaf 7. The other d/c's are right on the money..

I see a very faint line as you describe running part of the way. A wasn't sure if it was a slight scratch on the coin or the plastic though. Now I know.Thanks.

This is a nice one..OC2 - RC9..

..but for the toned reverse and heavy lacquer..

...Rob's book is a gem in itself.....He estimates that this die pair made up ~ 2.67% of the 1858's...

my very first 1858 1 cent I ever bought. Had it sent from London England and paid $ 45 incl shipping. nobody wanted it. ICCS graded it despite all the green stuff...and I still have it!
