Develec, great coin, I would love to own it. unfortunately I am unable to give an answer to your question, even though "I have Bosox's books.. (all packed up and put away. sorry Rob, if you want to know the story WHY, a PM will get it))
Bosox Does this coin qualify for, or is a version of the unbroken Vine?

Thanks Don....but I'm sticking with OD3 - RB13..at ~2.67% for my 1858...and these old eyes will look again..
I just very much enjoy the doubling in the Obv legend..and the rest that's going on with the d/c's..

OF1/RB6 for Fourmack. Devlec is correct on his. A couple of the 1858 obverse dies were used to mint 1859 W9/8 cents.

Quote: OF1/RB6 for Fourmack Excellent once again and thanks. Another 1 identified Quote: this is the most common OBV appearing on 1/6th of all 1858s, Rob Turner Thats me done on the 1858's, but I definitely want to get Rob Turners books. cheers Don

Thanks bosox...but Quote: Bosox Does this coin qualify for, or is a version of the unbroken Vine? I was also wondering about that.. Do the d/c's play a roll here..?.. In the above pics,.. I've used Picaca to add contrast ..and I then scroll the bar to lighten it somewhat. This makes it more splotchy and brighter than it really is but the finer details jump out better. . .

Here is one which I believe is the "missing 5" variety. However, am not absolutely sure. anyone know for sure?

Thanks 47P7...but please try to remember that it's "DEVLEC" ..the e is not there...
The center of your 1858 rev has so much faded away. Never seen the "C" missing like your example here..and such weakness in the center letters also.. We definitely need the experts in on this one..

In the last of my pics at the denticles at the bottom of the rim, all are connected by fine parallel lines connecting each denticle..
Can't say that I can remember seeing that on a cent before..
Any opinions or comments on this affect would naturally be welcome here..
Thanks..

Full (original) vines are present only on four dies (RA1 through RA4). Many other dies, like the one that minted Devlec's coin, only have a remnant of the vine remaining and are not full vines. Many of the 1858 dies, like the one that minted Helmut's coin (OF1/RB6, same dies as Fourmack's coin), had clogged dies and the letters and/or dates are weak. Pretty common stuff on 1858's. There is one fairly scarce die (not RB6), where the 5 is completely missing because of a Grease Filled Die. Okay, guys. Happy to help so far, but if you want further 1858 and W9/8 die help, e-mail me.

Thanks for letting us pick your brain again Rob.. ..and adding to our play time here.. I'm thinking that the "RC 18" is the really tough one out there.. Who knows..Maybe when we're "long and gone" ..the "remnant RB13's will also get into that lofty RA1 to RA4 FV category..? . .

Surprising how few 58's are showing by the CCF members here.. Was hoping to see a ton of different varieties..
