Hi all, I'm new to coin collecting and this forum. Well I used to collect as a kid and pulled out my old collection. I found this old Standing Liberty quarter and googled as much as I could about it. The quality is poor but I noticed it does not have the stars under the eagle. I was wondering if there is a way to tell if it is 1916 or 1917 with out having the date on it? Any help would be awesome, thanks!

to the forum!

The stars below the eagle show that this coin is a type 2. They were first made in 1917 so yours can't be the rare 1916. As for what date it could be, I don't think there is any way to tell. Type 2s were made from 1917 to 1924, so it would have been made somewhere within that date range.

This one does NOT have the star beneath the eagle. I just looked at it compared to one with star under magnifying glass.

At first glance, this looks like a 1917. The pictures are too blurry to be 100% sure though.

This image is a good reference:

Welcome to Coin Community, maizuru3030. Your best bet will probably be the bottom fold of the gown. Here are detail images:

I'm reasonably sure your coin is a 1917.

Thanks for the help, after looking at it more I am fairly sure it is 1917. Thanks though!
