Part of my ongoing trek through my 35 year old safety deposit box. This one has a definite purple tone to the entire thing, that I could only capture in one photo when I shot the coin from an angle in the sun.

This was the grading from the guy I bought it from, way back in the late 70s:

1802-S-231-Stemless-Wreath

1802-S-231-Stemless-Wreath

1802-S-231-Stemless-Wreath

You get more of a hint of the purple in this angled shot (the photos don't do the purple justice).

1802-S-231-Stemless-Wreath

More of the purple:

Thanks all.

Where are you seeing the damage? Just curious, so I can learn these things. Thanks.

The whole purple hue is wrong which leads me to believe it was cleaned at some time and has retoned/corroded. If you picked it up for $39 as the 2x states you did pretty good.

Oh that's interesting. I figured it was just late stage toning or something. Well, I mean, you're suggesting it is, but it's the wrong toning :) I probably paid at most that. Usually the old gentleman who sold me these gave me a price below what was on them.
