My local credit union does it for no fee if you are a member. And last time she gave me six Canadian quarters that were left in the reject area. I used to roll them up what a pain. No more

Our local grocery store has both a CoinStar and a TD Bank with a coin machine. My change jar gets cashed in every couple months or after I go on a CRH spree at CoinStar usually and I get an iTunes credit voucher, we use that for app and movie purchases to keep from putting our credit card out there. CoinStar does not charge the 9.9% fee for gift card credits.
If I want the cash I avoid the CoinStar Cash Fee and use the TD machine. No account needed.

I always try to mix some nickels and quarters with my big penny dumps to make it look more normal like someone is just cashing in all the coins they saved up rather than a obnoxious penny collector! (like me, or all of us)

I used the coinstar today and got $11 for Amazon out of some pennies I had been neglecting to roll. Glad I didn't spend the time rolling them!! |

My bank doesn't even accept rolled coins any more. If you show up with a box of rolled coins they give you a heavy duty plastic bag, point you to a chair in the lobby and kindly tell you to break the rolls into said bag. |

I tried the coinstar method today. It worked just fine but I guess I expected it to be a bit quicker. Spent a good 20+ minutes dumping my $75.00 worth of pennies in! Felt a little weird but no one seemed to care. Regardless though thanks for the tip, Amazon credit to me is just about as good as cash! |

i used to roll them all (probably rolled around 15,000 the last few years) but , not worth it. especially if you have to buy the rolls. and its always uncomfortable lugging them back to the bank especially if its crowded

 If you have a Bank Of America bank around you, just take them there in any bag, box, can, etc. They have a system where they take all coins and put them in a bag and ship them out for counting. HOWEVER, there is a small problem. IF you have an account with them, they simply add the amount to your account and there is no charge. The bad news is if you don't have an account with them. Then there is a charge for this service. And they will send you a check for the amount you had in change. And there is a charge for that too. So the smart thing to do is find a BOA bank, open a savings account, use that to get rid of excess change. |
