How do you guys return your unwanted pennies back to the bank. Do you roll them all? I have heard that there are bags that hold $50 worth of pennies. Where do I find these?

first hint: don't return to the bank you got them from, unless they have a CoinStar machine. Many who CRH have a few banks to get coins from and a few banks to dump their extras.

to CCF. I hand roll mine and dump them at a different bank then I buy from. No more then three boxes at a time, most time two boxes. Good luck on your hunt. John1

I really like the idea of dumping my pennies for Amazon credit at coin star. Seems much better than awkwardly trying to cash them in at the bank. Can you just credit them to your account so there isn't an expiration date?

Thanks for all the replies! After looking around a bit more it seems that TD's penny arcade is a good option. Has anyone used this service before?

Roll them, return them. If your bank has a machine, then you might opt for that. I had not heard of the gift card option from Coinstar but if it's free then that's a possible solution. Good luck on the hunt!

From what I heard TD penny arcade is great if you have one of those around and have an account. I'm on the east coast and do not have anything near me so the idea of dumping my unwanted pennies in CoinStar for Amazon credit beats awkwardly trying to turn in a bunch of penny rolls. I'm just curious how long the credit is good for and how accurate Coinstar is at counting coins!

Can't answer the time frame on a gift certificate but coin stars count change just fine.

The way I look at it...I just use CoinStar..it is worth the $2.50 they charge per box to not waste my time rolling.

As others have said, you should probably avoid returning the coins to the same branch you got them. For one, it seems to annoy the tellers because you are wasting their time. Additionally, you are much more likely to get the same coins back when you get more.
I have never heard about the gift cards from coinstars... haven't visited one of those machines in probably 15 years (other than the reject tray) and it wasn't an option back then.

I use coinstar and get the Amazon gift card, this works well for me since there is no fee and I shop on Amazon relatively frequently. The gift card never expires, in my experience (I believe there is a law requiring no expiration date for gift cards).

Throw them by the handful over the property fence into the back yard of the bank? Actually, not so silly. I have a deliberately underweight British penny that made the trip in the opposite direction, at the hand of an unknown Royal Mint employee! A protest when the RM was moved from London to Llanstrisant in Wales.

Usually you can just get a no fee gift card for the grocery store you are dumping them at. So just dump them first and then use it to buy your food you were there to buy already.
