Not really sure what you mean by smooth. The coin looks fine and untouched to me. A little porous in spots and some signs of bronze disease by VOT and along the reverse edge otherwise a very nice looking coin.

So would you avoid the coin? Does it need additional care and time to be maintained?

Depending on the price. The BD isn't server and can be easily treated. Overall the coin is very nice and I would give it a grade of aEF.

Just saw your PM. His coins in this grade tend to sell a high. However the current bid does appear to be too much IMO.

i think it looks good as well. I would guess those green spots are not BD, they look pretty solid to me.
