There is a new Chinese seller offering Rare date 8R Mexican coins that are in reality real late dated coins that have been altered to read as if they are RARE.

http://cgi.ebay.com/1866-Mexico-1-O...NC_W0QQitemZ a href= https://www.coincommunity.com/go/link.asp?target=https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/140159649503 target= _blank rel= nofollow 140159649503 /a QQihZ004QQcategoryZ541QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The coin here was actually minted after 1874 and before 1882 - you can tell by the tongue in the snake's mouth. In 1866, the snakes head is closer to an oval and never has a distinct tongue. There are hundreds of other points of confirmation but that is by far the most obvious.

Most of his other offerings are cast copies - modern and clearly junk - like the following:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1768-1-OLD-SILV...NC_W0QQitemZ a href= https://www.coincommunity.com/go/link.asp?target=https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/140159650964 target= _blank rel= nofollow 140159650964 /a QQihZ004QQcategoryZ39481QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The surface texture and color on 9 out of 10 of his coins is IDENTICAL. Does that bother anyone but me? Why do people bid on this stuff past $10. There are a couple coins that make nice fillers and under $20 no one gets hurt too much. But $50 for the 1866 Durango is foolish because the host coin is the wrong type - so it is not even a good filler.

Check out this guy's stuff - every single auction is for a fake coin - except the three Cap and Ray coins and those three are ALTERED date common silver coins.

The seller only has 2 negs. One about non-delivery; other one says: "Falsche Münze"
Translation?

yechi7 That means "wrong coin" but in vernacular German could mean FAKE!

I looked at some of his other sold coins and think most of his stuff is bogus. It just points out how gullible buyers can be.

There is NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER that all of his current auctions involve fraudulent coins. I know enough about the Cap and Ray series to say that with no fear of contradiction from anyone. I would take on all comers in a debate over those three coins. Regarding the rest of the coins all of which are cast copies (injection molded) I could not be as certain. I would place my odds of being right at 99.999%.

But regarding the description in his ebay postings - look at the words. He can fall back on his wording to say that he didn't know they were fakes. The coins DO exist and the coin you get will be THE coin pictured. But beyond that you are out on a limb if you believe this guy. Look at the condition of the coins. The 1865 Zs 8R (which is made from an 1895 Zs original) is the wrong type and uses the wrong font for the 6. The seller calls this piece of junk AU to Uncirculated. Is he kidding? It is chopped - dipped - artificially toned and it has been altered. It is a bullion coin PERIOD.

Just report him if the coins are fake.
He gives an easy way to have the listings removed.

In the listing paypal, cash oder, money order, personal check ,WESTER UNION is all ok.

ebay states: Not permitted on ebay.com: Sellers may not solicit buyers to mail cash. Sellers may not ask buyers to send cash through instant cash transfer services (non-bank, point-to-point cash transfers) such as Western Union or Moneygram.

Maybe he thinks he can get away with it if it's "WESTER UNION."

The only thing rare about these coins are that they are real. I have reaely seen any real coins coming from any e-bay sellers from China.

I have written to the seller. I don't really expect an answer, but since it is a two day auction that is nearly half over - ebay will not be able to react fast enough anyway.

I suspect that this is just another new name for the Beijing group and that several of the initial bids are "group member" names that will appear in the near future. Most of their feedbacks come from completed transactions within the group where no money changes hands anyway.

I have a couple snipe bids ofr about $10 on a couple of the new die pairs.

I hope everyone noticed that ebay actually cancelled these auctions in the last few hours before they ended.

I'm glad they ended these, I wish they would have ended these sooner, instead of hours before they ended.
