Just Purchased Whitman Classic Album

I thought the only way to really prevent toning over the years was to actually put the album in an airtight bag. Of course the initial air in the bag would also affect it. Although I do think some folks have not had a problem with toning ever due to the climate they live in to begin with. Since I'm not even close to being an expert on this, if I was going to do it myself, and I wanted all BU red without exception, I would probably shoot for an album that would handle the airtites or intercepts or something along those lines. Just my opinion, grain of salt please!!

I have presently well over 100 Whitman Classic Albums. I started with Whitman Folders when I was a kid and slowly gradulated to each type as they were created. Since about 1943 to now, no problems with toning, corroding, rusting, tarnishing, etc. For some reason as a kid I knew air created a problem so all Folders and now Albums are in a separate plastic bag with as much air pressed out as possible.
As to the 55 Double Die, do as you mentioned and just place a poor man's DD in that slot. The one thing I too don't like about Whitman is the slots for 22Plain, 55Double, 72Double. Those are errors and should not be there. Even my Liberty nickel Albums have slots for the 1913. Whitman really ticks me off with stupidity.
On the brighter side, you can order additional pages from Whitman for all albums. Some dealers also carry additional pages. Therefore making your 09 to 95 an 09 to present Album. The additional pages will be blank but Whitman also sells equal sized gold type press on numbers and letters so you can add what ever you want. That additional page is tuff to get in but it can be done. When full makes for a heavy Album. I too like the color of dark blue over the Dansco tan. Brown coins in a tan Album just dosen't look good.
The additional pages can also be done with all denominations. I usually put two Buffalo nickels sets in one Album. Same with Indian Head cents and others.
