I'd like to increase my halves collection however I am having a hard time finding decent prices on walking liberties and barbers online. I do some CRH but it's not likely I'm going to find either of those types in a roll. I'm willing to pay a decent price but ebay seems like a scam for the most part. Any good sites out there to buy these or do you pretty much have to find a good local pawn/coin shop to get a fair price? Thanks.

Check APMEX and provident metals. They sell the common dates in as little as $1 face (mixed dates), and occasionally have some better dates for sale individually.

Not sure if you also collect the coins for just the silver. Or just specific coins. If just for the specific coins this may not be for you. But I have became "buddies" with a local "We by gold" shop. They dont do resale. However Ive talked them in to letting me purchase their halves when they get them in. Got a pretty decent price of 7 dollars for the halves. I havent received anything special yet. But have gotten a few walkers in really nice condition. I'mnot a collecter for the coins. Just the Silver. But its still not a bad price. You never know what your going to get. Kind of like a grab bag. Had a few American Eagles come in the other day to.

Haha to the guy posting auctions for $17,000! Wish I had that kind of money! I have used APMEX once before and they seemed good. I got a few Peace dollars (AU) and silver dollars (BU) from them. I was looking at some of their XF rolls of walking liberties but the reviews are kind of mixed due to the condition of the coins you may receive. I'll have to look around locally as it seems like that is the best bet. Thanks!

For walkers I've always done better at local shops. Most of them are buyers who'd rather turn their stock than put it in 2x2's. I've found VG 1919-D's, 1923-S's and a VF 1933-S out of the scrap cans for melt.
If you're looking for better coins try hjbltd.com or briangreerrarecoins.com.

What's your goal with these? Are you collecting to a set definition, or intending to hold some bulk numismatic silver? It would have a bearing on the best places to look. With that said, the same talents you'll develop to evaluate online stores you've never seen before are applicable at ebay as well. It's a good place to buy as long as your eyes are wide open and you can separate the wheat from the chaff. So yes, we'll happily recommend places to buy with a better idea of what you want, but the longer-term goal is to teach so you can fish for yourself.

Try your local silver & gold buyers, offer them above melt, for they are buying for less, and just shipping them off to be melted down.

I would say I am just looking for them as an investment and more for the numismatic value (I'm not wanting to melt anything down for silver). I'd just like to get some in good condition that I can throw in my airtite containers and save. I don't expect to get one of every year or anything. I will have to try and get out to some local stores. I'll also keep my eye on ebay but the prices usually seem a little steep IMO. I also checked out http://www.empirecoins.net/, seems a bit pricey to me but I am new so they may be more valuable than I thought! Thanks!
