There is no guarantee that the high premium stuff will have retained its value down the road. In fact I've seen some of the semi-numismatic precious metals decline at a greater percentage rate than the lower premium rounds/bars after a few years when all of the hype has died down. Very similar price cycle to modern commemoratives produced by the U.S. and RCM mints, they see an initial bump after issue due to the hype generated by the promoters/flippers but then they decline gradually over time.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks Joe2007! Glad to have stumbled upon here!

I agree that the higher premium silver is a tricky business, you have to do quite a bit of research to be sure you are making a good choice and still theres no gurrantee. We will just have to wait and see

There is room for both but as Joe says there is no guarantee, stack what you like is the best thing to do, no one knows what the prices of anything will be down the road it all supply and demand.

I think most SHTF stacker's "hope" things don't get so bad that they need to be on the run and that they can stay where they currently are , use a bit of silver and gold to buy things if necessary.

Its all depends on the degree of "SHTF" if its like the movie "The Road" then people wont care much about silver and gold, just where they are going to get their next meal and to try and avoid "Being Eaten"

The plastic holders for numismatics adds a price to every item that I ain't willing to pay for often. It's up to everyone to buy what they are comfortable with.

Fistfulla: The way to do it is to draw your gold into wire (using its inherent malleability to your advantage) and hide it evenly in your clothes so as not to weigh you down, then dispense it a little at a time using metal snips/wire cutters. Coins are for people who adore the design and ignore the metal content, otherwise they would buy bars. If you have a Henry A7 you can stick your gold in the compartment since nobody will get at your gold unless you're dead kinda thing. That's why silver is useless in situations like these, unless you pack a single roll of Roosevelt dimes and don't get carried away.

I agree with jwb7111. Numis is just not the game for most stackers.

If you want to add more value to a single coin, why don't you just buy gold.
