This coin started life as a 37mm silver crown, became a half-dollar-sized nickel coin in 1949, changed in 1957 to a cupro-nickel coin slightly smaller than a quarter and ended up as a tiny aluminium-bronze coin worth about 3c before being swept away by the euro in 2002!
