1960 French 5 Francs:

How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Third-Edition!-Ended-At-1487-Waiting-On-1486

This was the first silver coin issued in France since 1939 and was equivalent to 500 old francs. The design was the famous 'Sower' by Oscar Roty, first used on French silver coins in 1898. The metal content was changed from 83.5% silver to nickel-clad cupro-nickel in 1970 and the silver coins were demonetised in 1980.

1959 France 1 Franc:

How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Third-Edition!-Ended-At-1487-Waiting-On-1486

This was the last year of the old French franc, which had been introduced during the Revolutionary period at the end of the 18th century. Originally struck in 90% silver, the coin had gradually been debased, first to 83.5% silver in the 1860s, then to aluminium-bronze in 1920 and finally to aluminium in 1941. However, coins like this one remained legal tender after 1960 as 1 centime, one-hundredth of a new franc.

My avatar - 1958 British threepence:

How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Third-Edition!-Ended-At-1487-Waiting-On-1486

Designed by William Gardner, the coin shows the portcullis, symbol of the Tudor monarchs, which was also used on the decimal penny from 1971 to 2008.

1958 (Showa 33) 10 yen
How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Third-Edition!-Ended-At-1487-Waiting-On-1486
The last year with a reeded edge.
The only 10 yen coin that I paid more than 10 yen for.
All the other years I pulled from circulation.
It would have about 10 yen worth of copper in it, if the exchange rate were still 360 yen per US dollar.
